Shapton Glass Stone 500 Grit Sharpening Stone, Double Thick

28 items left

Shapton Glass Stone, 500 Grit, Double-Thick, #50106.

210mm x 70mm, 10mm thick (total thickness is 15mm: 10mm of abrasive bonded to 5mm glass plate).

This is a special double-thick version of the very popular 500 grit Shapton Glass Stone. If you do a lot of sharpening, this is a great choice to get extra life from this excellent coarse stone.

Shapton GlassStones are very fast cutting and long-lasting. The ceramic abrasive is permanently bonded to a glass plate so the whole unit is very flat and very strong. The abrasive is extremely consistent and dense so you have a great feel and can produce very precise and clean edges, plus these have the convenience of splash-and-go sharpening (do not soak these stones).

The Shapton stone holder (sold separately) is designed to fit these stones perfectly and is quite heavy and tall, providing a great workstation. The more affordable Naniwa universal/adjustable stone holder also works fine for these stones. The Naniwa rust eraser is also popular for quickly cleaning your stones of embedded metal particles.

Of course you'll eventually need to flatten your stones too, so consider one of the Naniwa flattening stones for a great budget solution, or one of the DMT or Atoma or Shapton diamond lapping plates to get your stones super flat.

Made in Japan.

Shapton Glass 500

This is a quick stone removing metal nicely without loading up.
It is a great stone for German steel kitchen knives and all anyone really needs for most knives.
A finer stone would be required for raw meats and such but the 500 is a workorse.
Great stone!!

Love this stone

I sharpen knives professionally on a daily basis. Coarse stones are the cornerstone (s) of my process. I start every knife on a coarse stone and the all stones wear out over time. So to have this excellent product available in an extra thick version is fantastic. Shapton Glass stones excel at abrading any steel but especially very hard steels that some other brands may struggle with. With over 50,000 knives under my belt, take my word for it, it’s an awesome abrasive and will lead to the building of skill, confidence and a sense of satisfaction.

Time Saver stone

I used the regular thickShapton Glass 500 a lot with my working knives. It removed high carbon steel fast in a manageable way. So I brought this double thick one. Got it used yesterday. Same excellent performance. It came with a plastic box like the Shapton pro that can be used as a holder.
