Shapton Diamond Glass Lapping Plate - DGLP

8 items left

The Shapton DGLP Diamond Glass Lapping Plate is famous around the world, and for good reason. It's not cheap, but it strives for perfection and performance unlike any other diamond lapping plate on the market. The performance is amazing and it is known to be as perfectly flat as is possible.

Read the Shapton FAQ/instructions.

This DGLP is capable of lapping stones up to 30 microns (500 grit or above). It should not be used on rougher stones, as that would dramatically reduce its usable life.

Here's what Shapton says:

Most users find the capabilities of Shapton's DGLP astonishing. The sharpest cut is born when two steel planes cross at an acute angle. Yet every time a blade is sharpened on a sharpening stone, the stone itself changes shape, so over time, the planes at the blade's edge also change. That is why it is so important to keep the sharpening stone itself flat. Apply the DGLP, and you will enjoy sharpening as never before. The DGLP uses glass for its base, and this is what produces such high precision on the resulting sharpening stone plane.

High quality tool

I am an everyday straight razor shaver. To keep my razors sharp, I use the Shapton Glass line of products. Having a high quality lapping stone is almost more important than having the stones themselves. Having completely flat stones is extremely important to ensure the edge is evenly sharpened. This product is the best you can get. You definitely get what you pay for.

simply the best

I absolutely love the DGLP, the performance and results justify the price tag. Works fast and consistent. I can't say much about it life spam as its still new but time will tell. worth the investment. I can't say enough good thing about the incredible service and the fast shipping.

I have used it exclusively with the yellow and wine Shapton stones. Many people spend a huge amount of time preparing a blade only to do the original lapping and micro-bevel using final stones which are not absolutely flat. What a waste. This lapping plate is absolutely gorgeous to use with the Shapton fine stones, and the results it produces nothing short of stunning.

Paul's service was superb.

I purchased a 16,000 shapton from another vendor, and from reading the reviews and comments regarding lapping the shapton with any diamond stone, I gave it a shot with a stone I already had. It was with great difficulty to get it flat, suctions, sticking. Everywhere I looked the DGLP was always a little too expensive. I finally managed to find Pauls finest website, had a browse around and notice the DGLP was on sale. Added it to my cart with some other stones, and ordered right away.

Followed the instructions, and right away used the DGLP on my already used 16,000, and woah, what a freaking difference. I could not believe what I had just experienced. No sticking whatsoever, and very little suction.

I will definitely be coming back to Pauls finest to expand my sharpening gear, because Paul literally is quick with email responses himself, and leaves no one hanging. If his customer base grows that might not sustainable, but rightfully so. Top shelf customer service.

Shapton DGLP

As always, service from Paul’s was excellent. DGLP seems to perform quite well. I’ve used in on everything from 500 - 10,000 grit and it’s done a good job on each. The cutting speed has definitely slowed a bit from new but still gets the job done. Certainly seems to set the standard for flat compared to other lapping plates I’ve used.
