DMT-D8X

DMT D8X 8-Inch Dia-Sharp Sharpening Stone, Extra Coarse, 220 Grit

1 item left

Extra Coarse diamond (60 micron / 220 mesh) for fast removal of material and edge repair.

This D8X extra coarse plate is very heavy and very flat and is perfect for cuting a new edge or tip on a damaged knife quite quickly. This is roughly equivalent to a 220 grit waterstone, so definitely in extra-coarse territory. And since these cut so fast, I would recommend you don't apply too much pressure, just let the diamonds do the work! You'll get better, more controlled results this way, and the stone will last much longer. Just do the minimum required to start the process, then move on to the next grits for finishing and polishing, etc.

Note that DMT does not recommend this stone for lapping/flattening waterstones. Get one of the big DiaFlat lapping plates (extra-coarse or coarse) for that job, they will hold up much better!

Diamond sharpening "stones" like this are an affordable, easy and fast way to sharpen your knives. And of course they never need flattening, so no need to invest in a lapping plate!

Measures 8" x 3".

Guaranteed not to hollow or groove, DMT®’s precisely engineered Dia-Sharp® Bench Stone with continuous diamond surface assures consistent, even sharpening every time.

NOTE: The surface of these stones may appear scratched and there may be small indents/pits in the surface, but it's just a by-product of their manufacturing and does not affect performance.

Cuts FAST

I bought this stone to deal with bevel reprofiling/edge repairs and wow does it cut fast. I first used it to remove the micro bevels on two Mora knives (Garberg and a HD Companion - carbon steel) and while it took a fair amount of time, it would have taken me much longer without this stone (this usage is also great for breaking in these DMT stones). It also made short work of some damaged high alloy "super steel" knives I had used very roughly over the summer that needed some attention along the cutting edges.

This bench stone removes material very quickly, so be sure to use very light pressure and check your work frequently. Overall, a great stone to have in a sharpening tool kit.
