Naniwa Super Stone 3000 Grit Japanese Whetstone Sharpening Stone, NO Stand, 21cm x 7cm surface, 2cm thick.
This fine stone is just the ticket for finishing off your edge, or for regular maintenance. It's a good option for people who don't need the more polished edge of the 5000 or higher grit (and this one will work more quickly, and it's cheaper). This is the smoothest most people will ever need to use for most average knives, especially German (Henckels, Wusthof, Victorinox, Sanelli, etc.) knives or any knife with standard steel. This can also yield an edge that has a nice bite and which can be maintained nicely with a standard sharpening/honing steel.
The Naniwa Super Stones are excellent whetstones, very reliable, forgiving, and not fragile. A GREAT choice for the beginner or casual home user who just wants good long-lasting stones that work great on a variety of knives. I use these SuperStone series at home and they're great. They're also easy to use: just splash-and-go, no need for soaking and in fact they should NOT be soaked.
Note: these are now branded "Super Stones" again... in 2015 Naniwa re-branded them "Sharpening Stones" for the North American market, but I think they finally realized that didn't make sense so they're gone back to the better-known "Super Stone" name. The photo here shows the old "Sharpening Stone" box, but the one you'll receive will reflect the new "Super Stone" packaging. The stone is the same, just the packaging has changed.
These are excellent stones! High quality, long-lasting, great value, not fragile.
Warranty: One-year warranty against manufacturing defects.
NOTE: This is a full 2cm thick stone. It has been brought to our attention that other vendors are importing the cheaper 1cm thick version and then not always specifying the thickness on their web sites. Those stones are cheaper, and being half as thick will be more prone to breaking and will not last nearly as long as these normal full-thickness stones! We do NOT and have never imported or sold those cheaper 1cm thick versions of these stones.
