DMT 10-Inch Dia-Flat Lapping Plate, 95 Micron / 160 Mesh (160 grit)

Score: 5.00 (votes: 1)

A slightly less coarse version of the original 120 micron lapping plate, so it will leave a smoother finish on your very fine stones if you prefer this. Of course it won't work as fast though, so it's a compromise. Recommended for lapping 1000 grit and higher waterstones. Yes you can use it on coarser stones as well, but it will wear down the diamonds more quickly, so if you do a LOT of sharpening and find yourself lapping your stones as lot, maybe consider the more coarse version.

Everything I hoped it would be. I did quite a bit of research before buying and from what I could tell most of the negative reviews on other sites came from people who believed the product to be defective because it cut slower after the initial wear in period (the period after which the plate normalizes and, you know sheds its bigger more irregular diamonds and actually starts working to the specification intended) or people who didn't realize the wear in period, and complained of coarse uneven cutting right out of the package.
Still the thing ain't cheap so there's always a slight reservation.

Happy to say that it is fantastic. It's bigger than almost any stones, which makes for really easy removal of buildup as there's always open material to have under running water as you scrub.

It also flatens truing stones perfectly which is great for substantial dishing because you can start by using the (now perfectly flat stone) and then finish with the plate, but in all but the most extreme cases, this is an unnecessary step. Why? because this plate cuts really, really well. Also, it seems like it's pretty indestructible. This is the sort of product that once you have it, you wonder how you lived without it.

Paul has a great price on it, and I gotta say: it's worth every penny. I'm extremely satisfied with both the product, the price and the excellent customer service and communication received here at Paul's Finest.

    Too noch.
