All steel construction, like the rest of these high-end Culinar knives. Yes, it's a bit heavier than Grand Prix II and Classic versions because of the all-steel handle -- this is neither a good thing nor a bad thing... heft/weight is really a matter of personal preference: Keep in mind that a bit of extra heft isn't necessarily a bad thing.
